4.5 ...Planet of the Apes meets Crusaders (My interpretation)
A heck of a lot less violent than Heat, which had gore and rape from beginning to nearly the end. Loved the world-building at the beginning. It did drag off and on during the middle. The payout was for reading this long book was a very rewarding ending. Everything came full circle.
What was good: the world-building, the romance, the characters (even the villains had dimension; except the humans, especially Scott), and the resolution
What Gann needed: tighter storytelling, Nikki and Scott's behaviors became old and they lost their effectiveness as foils/villains
