Hart Mackensie finally re-meets his match while using his political clout to become Prime Minister. He has become a slave to his ambitious politcal goals. As his story progresses, the sacrifices he has made to protect his family are revealed. His love for his brothers, especially Ian, is profound but it has never stopped him from trying to manipulate their lives for a positive outcome.
Eleanor is a worthy match. She was a little hard for me to figure out at first. I wasn't sure if she was chatterbox with a spine of steel or a happy-go-lucky sort with a strong independent streak. Eventually, I stopped trying to define her and enjoyed the story. We learn why she broke off her engagement to Hart, and the secret behind her return is revealed. Eleanor is spunky, loving, and seems to understand Hart in a way no one else can.
Ian has a strong presence in this book. The bond between the two brothers is special. Fans of this series, especially The Madness of Lord Ian Mackensie, will be happy with the appearances Ian makes and the love the brothers share. It's touching.
Another review (Catherine) stated it didn't have the intensity she was hoping for and I have to agree. Hart's main issue is that he needs to be in control of everything and it's turning him into a coldly driven man, even attaining a wife is master-planned. We see El make him laugh, stand up to him, and turn him on, but I wish there would have been something more. I also expected hotter love scenes. While Eleanor and Hart engaged in a naughty activity, Hart's supposedly kinky past remained hidden until the end. His history with Ms. Palmer played such a strong role in Ian's book and led to a lot of heartache that I was sure Hart's kinks would have greater bearing in this story. Eleanor was game with his "darker" needs and I'm sure Hart in her with have lots of fun in the bedroom, especially with the gift he gave her.
The epilogue should make readers feel very happy for the Mackensie brothers. It ties everything together with a nice bow. Overall, I enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to the next book titled The Seduction of Eliot McBride. Elliot is brother to Ainsley(Cameron Mackensie's wife) and his heroine is Juliana St. John, friend of Ainsley and childhood crush for Elliot.
